Dr. Archana Nayak was born on 16th July, 1947 at Balugaon, near Chilka lake of Odisha. Her father late Kshetra Mohan Nayak was a government servant posted in Cuttack. So she could obtain her education from the renowned Ravenshaw Girl's High School, Sailabala Womens College and Ravenshaw College situated in the city of Cuttack. She was quite meritorious as a student and an academician par excellence during her school and college times. She secured first class first position in M.A. Oriya from the reputed Utkal University of Odisha. She started her career as a Lecturer of Odiya literature. She earned the much deserving reputation as an outstanding teacher while serving at the different Govt. Colleges of the state. She earned her Ph.D degree from Utkal University for her well researched thesis on 'Shiva in Odiya Kavya' in the year 1994. She has attended as participant and Chairperson in number of National Seminars organized by Central Sahitya Academy and University Grants Commission in New Delhi, Shanti Niketan and different places within the state.
Three research scholars have obtained Ph.D degree on Odia Literature from Utkal University under her guidance and supervision.
She is a revered short story writer, novelist, dramatist, essayist, Literary critic and lyricist in Oriya Language and also a prolific orator. She is admired by her readers and literary circle for her selection of sensitive humanistic themes, portrayal of characters, forceful language and lucid style of expression. The themes of her creativity range from real life experiences to
history and mythology and from the rich world of imagination to spiritualism.
Her outstanding works are Sata Padmara Dipa (Novel) and story collection like Aranya Abhisar, Sramanar Prithvi, Kalpanika Satya, Swapna Godhuli, Sakshi Thakurani, Naxtrar Bhasa & Hansa Prahari etc. Her essay collections like Odia Kavyara Siva, Nirbachita Prabandh' and 'Sri Aurobindo O'Nutan Prithivi' are well recognized in academic circle of Odisha. Till now she has to her credit forty books including novel, short story, One-act plays, essay translation and lyric collections.
She is also a recognized dramatist. She has written a series of drama scripts, which were published in eminent literary magazines. To her credit she has four collections of drama and one-act play. Her much acclaimed three hour duration drama 'Ambapalli' was staged in Kala Vikas Kendra, Cuttack the renowned theatre of the state. Number of plays were telecasted by television and broadcasted by All India Radio. She was honoured many times for her significant and gifted contributions to the field of script writing.
00 ,when she met Dr Basanti Rath ,an inspirational writer and Hindi translator; and Sri bhupen Mohapatra, a renowned and celebrated writer and mentor. With their inspiration and encouragement , Dr Patri published her very first poetry book "Sabarmati ra swapna",by kahaani publication headed by Mr. Girija Baliyar Singh. It was followed by her next writings "Bhija Godhuli Ta Basna " (Publisher : Mr Dhal ) and "sei Mora Dura Gaon ti "(publisher : Mr. Subash Sarangi ). Since then, there has been an ever evolving literary journey. Dr. Patri is also an approved Lyricist in Doordarshan, Akashvani. Her lyrical composition was sung by renowned vocalists Trupti Das, Subash Das, Pankaj Jal and Kumar Bapi in her own copyrighted audio release "sabarmati ra swapna " .
She was honoured for her creations by various literary bodies like Swosti Jhankar, Odisha Giti Kabi Samaj, Sulekha , Ispat Sahitia Sansad, Sarala Sahitya Samaja and many more.She received the very prestigious Rajdhani PustakMela Award for her creation "Sabarmati ra swapna ".
Her academic and personal life have been constantly beneficial in bringing her across vast spectrum of experiences and inspirational memories to be penned in her writings. She finished her matriculation in 1972 and joined Sailabala Womens College and later S.C.B Medical college, where she graduated her MBBS course. Later, Dr Patri did her post graduation in Obstetrics and Gynaecology from MKCG,Berhampur in the year 1985. A feminist by nature, she has constantly worked for women and mother & Child well being both through her professional endeavour , literary and inspiring oratory skills. Dr Patri frequently chairs in various programmes helping adolescent and school going girl child in regards to their health and social issues.
Dr Gitanjali is married to Dr. Gostha Chandra Patri(s/o Sri Gobinda Chandra Patri and sri Chayalata Patri), an imminent 'cardiologist in rourkela steel city, where she currently resides. She has a son (Gopendu ,a cardiologist by profession), daughter-in-law (Pallavi, an ENT surgeon by profession), daughter (Godhuli, an ophthalmologist by profession) and son-in¬law(Abinash„ a surgeon by profession) .She , along with her husband own a hospital "Godhuli Clinic and Goodwill Hospital" in Rourkela. Dr.Patri is a highly dedicated doctor who has constantly thrived to be selfless to her blessed profession and serve the humanity.
She , along with her husband has been a World traveler , all summing up to her experiences and inspiring her in every possible way.A renowned social figure,a Doctor in her hometown, Dr Patri strikes a perfect balance between her professional responsibilities and literary interests, both interdependent and contributory.
Her quest for literary knowledge is never ending and she continuously thrives to create new work.Since 2013, Dr Patri has been blessed with a beautiful Grand daughter, Kiara( "zuzu"), her fresh inspiration for her upcoming children's book "Jeje -jeji and zuzu" , much awaited by her readers.
Archana's literary works have been widely read and analysed by literary critics. Infact two research scholars have already been awarded Ph.D. degree working on different aspects of her short stories. Presently a number of scholars carrying out research work leading to Ph.D degree on her contribution to Odia literature under different Universities.
She is an ardent follower of Yogi Sri Aurobindo and the Mother of Pondicherry. She is highly considered as a renowned scholar on Sri Aurobindo's philosophy, spiritualism, integral yoga and integral education. She has written number of articles and published books on the above said subjects.
She is the editor of 'SAVITRI' a prestigious literary magazine and she is also the Chief Editor of 'Aspruha' a high standard spiritual magazine based on Sri Aurobindo's Vision.
She is an authorized lyricist of All India Radio, Cuttack, Odisha. A number of eminent singers have chosen her lyrics to sing in radio and television. Three lyric books have been published to her credit. Three music CDs are released and are much in demand, specially for
her devotional lyrics of high order.
